For every Nebraska Football game, the HuskerPedia™ BBS hosts a scoring predictions contest. Entrants must post on the appropriate and current predictions thread what they think the score will be at the next NU football game. The participant who comes closest to guessing the final scores of both teams will win a prize to be determined when the contest opens, and be able to bask in the glory of the impressive bragging rights. Second place, "2nd Team" finishers will be recognized as also having pretty good bragging rights, and third place finishers are recognized as the "Scout Team".  The participant with a prediction farther off than anyone else's is always ostracized as the "Anomaly of the Week".

How winners are determined:

All predictions are entered into a spreadsheet to keep track of your entry, when it was made in relationship with other entries, and who you picked to win.  After the game, the final scores are entered into the spreadsheet, and your predicted scores are compared to the actual final scores to calculate a "Total Point Error" value (TPE).  If the team you picked to win actually lost the game, your entry is disqualified (with the sole exception being where no entries chose the winning team).  If you picked the correct winning team, your score is then calculated.  If you guessed NU at 31 points, and they actually scored 28, the error value is 3.  It doesn't matter if you are long or short, the error value is always a positive number.  The error values of both teams' scores are combined to reach the TPE.  Whoever has the lowest TPE is designated as the Winner.  In the event of a tie, if a prize is to be awarded, the earlier-entered prediction will win as determined by when the prediction was entered onto the BBS.  Later entries with the same TPE are recognized as Co-Winners.  The next-lowest TPE(s) are part of the second place "2nd Team" finishers.  Third place finishers are recognized as "Scout Team".

Score predictions that are a duplicate of an earlier entry for the same game are not eligible for winning a prize, it is up to the contest entrant to either scan the posted entries in the current contest thread for matches and/or check the current thread's latest update (always located in the first posting on the thread).  If you feel very sure about your prediction even though someone else has already used it, you may feel free to enter a duplicate anyway just to prove your point, as long as you understand that this makes you ineligible to win a prize.

Predictions made on other threads are not entered into the contest, therefore you should make sure your score prediction appears in the Predictions thread started by BBS User "fjbfour".  You may edit your post, but your entry will then be changed to reflect the time it was updated so that earlier entries could win ahead of you.  Generally it is preferred that you simply add a new post, and your previous one will be disregarded.

A preview table of score predictions will be posted and updated as much as possible to help entrants avoid picking a duplicate score, but the BBS thread is the final word on the matter.  There will not be any kind of notification to entrants if their entry is invalid by duplication or any other avoidable problem.  Results will be announced and posted as soon as possible and practical after the game.

The spreadsheet also tracks the number of people who picked which team, establishes an average predicted score for each team, and therefore produces a spread on the game as a whole.  Since entrants in this contest are generally biased NU fans, I would not recommend using this spread for any personal betting you do on the side.  That spread and the number of picks for each team will also appear during the week as the preview table is updated.
